MANDATORY – Fire Ordinance
Beginning June 1st, 2019 prior to the sale, transfer or exchange of any real property within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Truckee Fire District Protection sellers of such real property shall be required to have a defensible space inspection following the requirements of PRC 4291 and Truckee Fire District Protection Ordinance 02-2012.
According to California Law (PRC 4291) a 100 ft clearing of debris and flammable material around homes and buildings is required. This space increases the chance of your home surviving a wildfire and also protects firefighters’ safety when protecting your home. The first 30 ft surrounding your building must be clear of all flammable vegetation and any dead or dying plants. Beyond those 30 ft, the remaining 70 ft must be a reduced fuel zone. Surface litter in this area, including fallen leaves, needles, twigs, bark, cones, pods, small branches, etc., must not exceed a depth of three inches.
